"Only The Cage Remains"

Back
Picture
"Only The Cage Remains" began as an experiment in procedural modeling.  As is often the case, the narrative emerged as I created and arranged the objects in the scene.  The image depicts several characters encountering the empty, weathered exoskeleton of one of their own in the desert.  It explores the idea of anthropomorphism and the nature of life, death, consciousness and existence.  The characters are actually abstract objects that have no deliberately designed human attributes, yet through context and the mysterious mechanisms of the human mind, they take on personality and a life of their own.
