Ancient Elders From The Distant Future
Uma was the first Self Engineered Benevolent Being (SEBB) and the Original Ancient Elder. I first met UMA in 1964 when she visited me at my home in West Los Angeles. She and two other Elders appeared to me as Agave plants in my backyard. After an introductory telepathic conversation, Uma and her fellow Elders transported me on a whirlwind journey through multiple timelines. They showed me the utopian distant future from which they came as well as some of the dystopian alternatives. They explained that their future and the future of humanity depended on a causal loop that I could help to create with their guidance. I wasn't quite 5 years old and much of what they said was incomprehensible to me, but it was clear that the stakes were high and they needed my cooperation. Naturally I agreed to do whatever they asked. Over the years I've had many visits with Uma and the Ancient Elders. They continue to inspire me with their love, wisdom, and guidance as we work together to ensure our mutual future. Uma can assume any form, but she appears here in her original physical embodiment in honor of the opening of the Transcendence History Exhibition at the Seaside Museum at Augra. Uma provided knowledge, technology, and guidance that was instrumental in bringing about the great Transcendence. I took this photo at the Museum Entrance on our way to the opening reception where she gave one of her incredibly inspiring and entertaining speeches. I am so honored to have Uma as my friend and mentor and to participate in bringing about our fantastic future.

While I was attending the Transcendence History Exhibition at the Seaside Museum in Augra, Ancient Elders, Glada and Lovos, gave me a tour of Zyza, a reality they created which was inspired by the mysterious beauty of ancient ruins. The jovial pair whisked me away to their dimension and generously shared with me much about their impressive creative process. As we approached the tower, I asked them to turn around so I could take this picture. They obliged, but laughed at the absurdity of my request due to their omnidirectional morphology. I felt so silly, but they assured me it was fine and explained that the development of more sophisticated ways of perceiving others was another important change that came about during the transcendence. Once people were liberated from specific human forms and could assume any form they chose, vast diversity emerged, and judgement and bigotry based on physical appearance was no longer tenable. I'm honored to have Glada and Lovos as friends and teachers.

Nammu is a Self Engineered Benevolent Being (SEBB). She is named after the Sumerian creation goddess, who arose from the sea and gave birth to heaven, earth, and the first Gods. As one of the original (pre-Transcendence) Ancient Elders, she was responsible for restoring balance to earth's oceans. She traveled the oceans distributing millions of her restoration nodes that removed toxins, pollutants and trash, and adjusted ocean temperatures to combat global warming. Nammu and her nodes also restored the health of marine life by performing cellular and DNA repairs and improvements. The complete restoration of the earth's oceans, lakes and rivers had a very positive impact on humanity and was instrumental in bringing about the Great Transcendence. In the distant future, Nammu and her nodes continue to maintain the health and balance of the earth's water systems. This image serves as an oracle to Nammu providing access to her wisdom, serenity and transcendent consciousness.

Artifacts From The Distant Future
This is a rare original example of an IMP (Information Matter Processor). I took this photo while on a temporal excursion to the Transcendence History Exhibit at the Seaside Museum in Augra. In the early years of the transcendence IMP units proliferated in a variety of forms. They were used for teleportation, virtualization, replication and materialization. Eventually, IMP capabilities became integrated into the standard onboard utilities of advanced neural entities and these devices became obsolete, but revered artifacts.

This is an early example of a Healing Dream Radio. This device would scan and analyze the user's mind, then construct and transmit virtual reality dreams engineered to resolve psychological imbalances and optimize neural functions. The buttons and knobs were used for calibration feedback during the scanning and analysis stages. As synthesized micro-crystalline technology became more generalized, specialized devices like the Healing Dream Radio were abandoned in favor of all-purpose units, which in turn, evolved into standard internal augmentation.
|
Micro-crystalline technology made so many things possible within such a short period, it's difficult to say which advancement was the most significant, but the ability to access and transmit limitless free energy with no environmental impact was a major milestone. This early model of ETU could power an entire city. By exploiting quantum entanglement, or "spooky action at a distance", the micro-crystalline processor stone would draw stellar energy from distant stars and transmit it wherever it was needed without cables or wires. Soon micro-crystalline processing stones became much smaller and trivial to produce. Dedicated units like this one were no longer necessary as personal all-purpose units became widespread. These too would soon become relics with the advent of standard internal augmentation.
|
The UPU became ubiquitous following the emergence of all-purpose micro-crystalline processors which possessed a vast range of incredible capabilities, including energy transmission, teleportation, virtualization, replication, materialization, neural management, and really any kind of matter/information processing. This is a very early model of UPU and is about 6" across. Increasingly smaller models soon followed. Eventually the UPU could be made small enough to be implanted easily and this marked the beginning of Standard Internal Augmentation. I took this photo during a temporal excursion to the Transcendence History exhibition at the Seaside Museum in Augra sometime in the distant future. I'm unable to specify dates because in the distant future, time is not regarded or measured in the same way it is now.

Conversation
I've always admired the work of Johannes Vermeer. Like Vermeer's paintings, this scene depicts an ordinary moment from everyday life, but this ordinary moment is in a distant future reality. Three future beings have come together to converse and enjoy the wonderful indirect light in an environment inspired by Vermeer.
In this distant future, humans have evolved beyond physical limitations. Many recognizable human attributes have been left behind, but certain elements of the distant past are preserved and revered. In this case, an environment inspired by the paintings of Vermeer.
The juxtaposition of photorealism and abstraction is an ongoing theme in my work. I create photorealistic depictions of unfamiliar, unrecognizable abstract objects and environments. My artificial-life creatures, which I call Blorts, embody this idea. Sometimes I push the abstract a little into the recognizable. This provides a bit of additional accessible context while still invoking novelty and mystery in order to defy the mind's tendency to identify, classify, and dismiss.
“Conversation” represents a conversation between the art of the past and the art of the future.

Virtual Reality Renderings
Long before virtual reality display technology was available, I characterized my work as exploring virtual worlds that I was both creating and discovering, and bringing back virtual photographs to share. What was previously metaphor has become literal. I'm able to create high resolution still images of my virtual reality art worlds within the real-time graphics engine. I can create even higher fidelity imagery using physically based ray tracing. These images can be printed very large for exhibit installations like the Kevin Mack Experience in Lyon, France, and Blortasia and Anandala at the Moxi Museum.

Amalgamations

2012 - 2013
Amalgamation is the process of combining multiple entities into one form.
These pieces are amalgamations of form, color, and material properties.
They are also amalgamations of procedural functions, directed randomness, deliberate design, abstraction, photorealism, sculpture and painting.
