Artist Statement
My work is an experimental exploration of the creative process and the transpersonal imagination. I am fascinated with the visions, dreams, and processes that inspire this exploration. The pursuit of the artistic expression of these visions is my primary preoccupation in life.
It is my goal to create timeless and compelling objects of contemplation that defy the mind's efforts to identify, simplify and categorize. Through manipulation of perception and cognition I endeavor to incite the unconscious imagination of the viewer and inspire an entertaining, personal experience of awe and mystery. I believe this kind of experience is essential to human development and well being.
I am focused on philosophical, scientific and spiritual imponderables; infinity, reality, consciousness, aesthetics and the future.
The future of humanity and our increasing integration with advancing technology are of great interest to me, so I enjoy and indulge in all manner of speculation. If we survive, what might we become in a hundred years? What will be possible in a thousand years? What will our reality and consciousness be like in a million years? These questions are central to transhumanism, which is an underlying theme in my work.
My images, sculptures and animations are created, generated, simulated and transformed using all manner of digital tools and techniques. I utilize digital painting and sculpting, procedural, algorithmic, generative and functional modeling, and physically based rendering in my efforts to create vivid realistic depictions and expressions of imagined and discovered realities.
My process integrates intuition and intellect - deliberate design and random happenstance - realism and abstraction - humanity and technology - art and math - science and mysticism - philosophy and humor.
